You were by my side -
A short haired girl -
Eyes, to find delight -
With you, my day was beyond measure.
We played and I gently talked -
You listened -
We swung from the swing and slid down the slide -
Discovered the beetles, ants, frogs by and by.
Marveled at caterpillars-
That built fragile cocoons -
We played in the streams -
And searched for tadpoles, fish, and crawdads -
A crane did fly by that you pointed to -
By pond we fed bread to the ducks -
A hapless goose among a crowd, though, bit you over grasping -
And then I was fury not to let eager beaks grasp little fingers.
Oars divide the shores -
Silver clouds a seam in the sky -
Of Butterflies, tapoles, ants and beetles -
Of sweet, gentle discoveries -
Breeanna, you in my remembrance -
Leap, splashless as you swim.
